Q1

When and how did the two of you meet, and what is most memorable about your first meeting?

LIZ & JASON: We started dating on August 30th, 2010 so our wedding was actually our ten-year anniversary! As we were fairly young when we started seeing each other, our initial dates consisted of getting pizza and ice cream with friends and hanging out at the local park. It’s hard to pinpoint the most memorable thing from our first meeting because it was so long ago but our relationship has evolved so much since then and it was only fitting that we get married on our anniversary.

Q2

On your day, what was your first thought when you woke up in the morning?

LIZ: I was just in disbelief at how stunning the weather was since it has been miserable the days prior. I said to myself, “I would’ve never thought twice about having an outdoor wedding if I knew the weather would be this nice!” As a nurse who treated countless COVID patients through the worst parts of the pandemic, I felt like today was our day to finally celebrate the next step in our relationship after such an unusual and stressful year.

JASON: I can’t believe we made it to this point! We had been through so much between wedding planning, work, and our personal lives throughout the year and it just felt surreal to finally make it to the finish line. It also helped that it was the sunniest, most beautiful day of summer.

Q3

If you had to choose, what would you say was the best part of your wedding day?

LIZ: My favorite part of the day was the Bedekken ceremony where I got to greet all our guests for the first time and be surrounded with the bridal party. Receiving blessings from my father and grandfather (as is customary in Jewish tradition) was so meaningful and touching. All of the excitement and energy culminated in Jason and his groomsmen rushing towards us! If I had to choose a single moment from the whole wedding it would for sure be when Jason covered me with my veil as everybody sang and danced!

JASON: For me, it was of course seeing Liz for the first time in 7 days! We had agreed to not see each other for that long as per Jewish tradition but that single week felt like an eternity. Also, I was just so excited to finally see my bride in her wedding gown after being given plenty of false clues as to what it looked like by Liz’s close friends and family. It was really such an idyllic moment for both of us and Ira gave us plenty of time and space to relish the moment between us. The only time I felt truly nervous throughout the whole day was right before seeing Liz at the first look. I was filled with so many emotions at once- excitement, anxiety, and stress- which all turned to relief and happiness upon finally seeing her!

I had such a hard time picking wedding shoes and I stumbled upon one pair with silver and gold butterflies along the entire sandal. I immediately fell in love with them and decided that butterflies were such a magical aesthetic to have in our wedding. Our florist and designer, Carmen & Co., created a magnificent escort display with live butterflies flying around clusters of flowers that us and our guests were amazed with.

Q4

What was the original plan for your wedding?

LIZ & JASON: We were originally planning to get married in a more traditional venue in Brooklyn on the same date but obviously the pandemic threw everything off. We were and are so happy with our decision to go forward and we even got to get married on our ten-year anniversary! The wedding was definitely not what we had originally imagined for years but it was so special and so much better than we ever dreamed of! We are so grateful for our family and friends as well as everyone who made the day come together just like we planned. Both of us never imagined having a wedding outside because with our luck it would be pouring rain, but we could not have wished for a sunnier day.

Q5

What aspects of your wedding most reflected your personality?

JASON: The cocktail hour was something I really looked forward to throughout the whole process. Just having an elegant, relaxed space for our guests to mingle and enjoy was such a fitting start to our event and I had such a wonderful time seeing everyone for the first time with a drink in my hand!

Q6

How did you feel during the ceremony?

LIZ: I kept looking around in disbelief that we were finally at this moment we’ve both fought so hard to be at after 10 years together. I was so grateful to begin, at this very moment, a fresh new chapter with Jason and to build a new life together.
JASON: I had a deep sense of appreciation that our closest friends and family had the ability to come together and celebrate the day with us. Our original wedding plan was to have over 300 people in a traditional wedding venue and I did not notice how much we had downsized until looking out at the rows of seats at the ceremony. Being able to recognize every face made the whole night so much more intimate and meaningful for the both of us.

Q7

What was your favorite part of the reception?

LIZ: Just experiencing live music and dancing for the first time in such a long while was so refreshing and has given us such an appreciation for the day after reliving it through photos and videos. It was such a joy to let loose on the dance floor after the anxiety and stress that comes with a wedding day especially after planning it through COVID.

JASON: Listening to Zach’s (Liz’s brother) speech was absolutely my favorite part after dancing with family and friends for what felt like hours! We had no doubts about Zach whatsoever, but his speech was so beautiful and heartfelt that it really caught us off guard and felt like a scene out of a movie. It was also a relief for us to finally have a second to breathe and sit together because we were exhausted.

Q8

What is your advice for brides and grooms planning their own celebration? Did you follow this advice yourself?

LIZ: My advice is something I was told by my sister-in-law when she was getting married 8 years ago. It was to close your eyes every now and then during the day and really try to internalize what is going on around you. This really helped me hold on to the day and remember key moments and feelings I felt that day. I also would tell people to just let all expectations go freely as hard as it might be with someone as particular as myself. As long as you have a great team behind you, you are in great hands!

JASON: Just to pause and take a deep breath throughout the day! It is very easy to get caught up in how the wedding plan is coming together as it is happening especially if you were very involved in the process like we both were. It may sound obvious, but I found it helpful to put everything in perspective and to focus on the important aspects of the day which was to celebrate our relationship with our closest friends and family.

Q9

What do you hope your guests remember most about your wedding day?

LIZ & JASON: We hope our wedding served as a reminder of what love felt like after such a dark time with COVID -19. I hope they remember how much we loved celebrating this day with all of them above all else and how much it meant for us to be able to have this wedding with them around.
