From the beginning, Heather and Jamie have been defying the odds. They first met in the workplace – an environment where romances are often discouraged. “The first word that came into my mind when I first met Heather was WOW. She was smart, confident and funny,” recalls Jamie. “I knew she was special the very first time I met her.” Perhaps it was that certain spark that sealed their fate, but not without a little hard work first. Throughout their engagement, Heather & Jamie were in a long distance relationship, trying to plan a wedding while living in two different countries. Despite the challenges, these two put together a thoughtful and beautiful celebration, bringing loved ones together from all around.

Q1

When did you know you wanted to get married?

Heather: I think I knew all along but we had some obstacles to overcome – like not living in the same country! Jamie was amazing. He showed me not one obstacle was too big to get in the way of us being together.

Jamie: I knew she was special the very first time I met her. When she moved back to New York I knew she was the one.

Q2

What did you most enjoy about planning your wedding?

Heather: I enjoyed a lot of it! I probably spent the most time on decor and flowers and was blown away on the day. We were lucky to work with amazing vendors, which made a lot of it pretty easy! I also really loved working with Nathan and Reuben – they totally captured how special the day was!

Jamie: Not having to plan any of it!

Q3

What were the first few planning decisions you made?

Heather: The first thing we did was look at venues and decide when we were going to have the wedding. Jamie was still living in London so we had to figure out how to get in the same city! Also locking in Marianne Bennett! She did my sister’s wedding and we knew we wanted her band from day one.

She's beautiful inside and out. We have the best time together.

I love Jamie’s confidence, sense of humor and personality. He always has a positive outlook on everything and just makes every situation more fun.

We both thought we’d cry a lot but we were just so happy we couldn’t stop smiling. It was an emotional weekend but really filled with just so much joy!

Q4

What qualities do you most admire about each other?

Heather: I love Jamie’s confidence, sense of humor and personality. He always has a positive outlook on everything and just makes every situation more fun. He’s the life of the party and I love that!

Jamie: She’s beautiful inside and out. We have the best time together.

Q5

What moments from your day stand out the most in your memory?

Heather: There were so many amazing moments that day! The ceremony was really special and saying our own vows were definitely a highlight. Walking into the reception room there was such an amazing energy and ambiance. Also, my niece Jessa, who was on our laps all night, it was her big day too! We are so close with her and she stole the show.

The party was also incredible. Marianne Bennett indulged Jamie and gave him the mic to sing “Fireworks” on stage, which had everyone on the dance floor! And of course, Jamie closing the night out shirtless – his signature party move!

Q6

Are there any themes that you used to personalize your wedding?

Heather: Yes! Since Jamie is from London, and that’s where we met, I wanted to play on the London/New York connection. We had a lot of guests come from the other side of the pond, so the favors were mini tea pots with customized tea bags and a classic English biscuit inside. Also, Jamie and the groomsmen wore Union Jack socks and we had some signature cocktails that played on the theme. Our hotel gift bags also were filled with things we love from both cities.

Walking into the reception room there was such an amazing energy and ambiance.

Q7

Did anything come as a surprise to you?

Heather: We both thought we’d cry a lot but we were just so happy we couldn’t stop smiling. It was an emotional weekend but really filled with just so much joy!

Jamie: I’m surprised the after after party finished at 6am…. I thought it would have gone on longer than that!

Q8

What’s the best relationship advice you’ve ever received?

Heather: to always laugh at his jokes, even the bad ones!

Jamie: Happy wife = happy life.

Q9

What advice would you give to a couple who are thinking about getting engaged?

Heather: It’s the best! Enjoy some time just being engaged and try and not let the little things stress you out too much. It goes by so quickly!

Jamie: Just to enjoy it!

He’s the life of the party and I love that!
