High school sweethearts Alex and Matt met during a school trip to Italy, but their romance did not bud until after they returned home. “Just friends” in the beginning, Alex and Matt took some time to get to know each other better. “His energetic personality gave me the best kind of butterflies,” recalls Alex. Matt’s first impression of Alex is the stuff teenage girl’s dreams are made of. “Her smile made me smile, and I knew she was the one,” he says. While some young romances are short and sweet, their relationship was built to last. Now ten years and counting, they have been together ever since.

Q1

What was on your Wedding Day wishlist?

Both: For our family and friends to be on their feet the entire night! This meant a big dance floor and an amazing band. We can confidently say we had an absolute blast dancing the night away with all the people we love most.

Q2

Did you learn anything about yourselves or each other throughout the planning process?

Alex: Matt is full of surprises. From the most incredible engagement down to the very moments leading up to our first look, Matt always finds the most creative ways to make our lives feel special.

Matt: Alex is organized and meticulous. I knew this before the wedding, but saw these traits amplified to the nth degree during the planning process. She has a keen eye and was able to turn a vision into an absolute masterpiece. I wish I could take credit for our wedding, but really I just take credit for finding the perfect wife.

Q3

What moments from your day stand out the most in your memory?

Alex: The first look. It brought back all the jitters and excitement I remember feeling when we first met. We had our first look on the steps of the library, while our friends and family cheered from the hotel balcony across the street. Time stopped when I first spotted Matt walking through the crowd, and everything felt so right in that moment. Also, Walking into the reception for our first dance. We were both overwhelmed with the energy that filled the room as we made our way to the center of the dance floor. Our friends and family had the biggest smiles on their faces and we were both on cloud nine to be surrounded by such love.

Matt: I remember getting nervous when I was told she was finally ready for me. I don’t know why I was nervous, I guess it was more excitement to see my bride for the very first time. The joy I had as I walked across the street looking at Alex is indescribable. I was filled with so many emotions and memories and then to see how beautiful she looked, it was a very special moment.

Q4

Why did you decide to have a First Look?

Both: We wanted a moment that was just for us. It ended up being our most memorable part of the day, and we are so glad we chose to do it.

Q5

If you were only allowed one memento to keep from your wedding, what would it be? Why?

Both: Our video trailer by Adrian Toto. Luckily, this one memento sums up the day perfectly as Adrian managed to capture all the love, warmth, and joy we both experienced. It’s no surprise we have watched the video over a hundred times because it allows us to relive our wedding over and over again! And if were allowed keep 1000 mementos, our memory of the day would not be complete without all the spectacular photos Rebecca Walker took! Seeing the day through her eyes tells a beautiful story we get to look back on for a lifetime.

Q6

Is there anything you would have done differently?

Both: No, we loved every minute!

Q7

What was the best wedding advice you received?

Both: Someone told us that on our wedding day we could easily get pulled in different directions, but we should try our best to stick together. We followed that advice and could not be happier. By doing so, we were able to share every moment together and truly enjoyed the day side by side.

Q8

What advice would you offer to a newly engaged couple in the throes of wedding planning?

Alex: Don’t sweat the small stuff, they will quickly be forgotten. Instead, focus on the things that make you happy as a couple.

Matt: Have an opinion. Even though the bride is always right, the planning is more fun when you are both involved…and sometimes, the groom is right.

We can confidently say we had an absolute blast dancing the night away with all the people we love most.
